Dandi is a small village in the Jalalpore district, Gujarat, India. It is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea near the city of Navsari.
It shot into worldwide prominence in 1930 when Mahatma Gandhi selected it to be the place for the Salt Satyagraha. He marched from Ahmedabad to Dandi with some of his followers to protest against the imposition of a tax on salt.
This small village has some co-operative societies 1. Dandi Vibhag Kheti Sahakari Mandali 2. Dandi Vibhag Dudh Utpadak Sahakari Mandli 3. Kelavani Mandal Dandi 4. Shri Radhakrishna Mandir Trust and two unregistered mandal 1. Shri Yuvak Mandal Dandi 1.1 Ramat Gamat Mandal Dandi ( operated by Shri Yuvak mandal Dandi) 2. Mahila Mandal Dandi ( Not much active yet) And Gouvernment Recognised body - Gram Panchayat Dandi.
Dandi has one primary school named Vardha Rashtriy Shala Dandi and one high school named Vinay Mandir Dandi.
1. Dandi Vibhag Kheti Sahakari Mandali
This co-operative society was firmed soon after India get independence.In 1953 they built more around 10 dams from Arabian seashore to Samapur and Aat and get more than 6000 acres of land from sea water. Before that only salt was produced naturally on that soil. slowly and slowly it developed and now farmers grow paddy, Indian bean (VAL), other vegetables and grains. Some farmers used it for pron farming. Late Lallubhai P. Patel was manager for a long. Late Lallubhai Makanji (Matwad), Shri Gosaibhai Patel (Matwad), Shri Somabhai Patel (Dandi) etc. were pioneer of this society.
2. Dandi Vibhag Dudh Utpadak Sahakari Mandli
This co-operative society was started in 1973 with a few members who had only income of agricultural and dairy incomes. Late Amrutbhai Makanji Patel and late Keshavbhai Nanabhai Patel were the pioneer of this society. Until their death they were active with this society. Now a days it is well developed society. Mr. Parimal Patel is President and Mrs. Jyotiben is accountant sinne a few time. For the long time this society had not facility of its own building. At that time they used building of primary school and Vinay Mandir Dandi.
3. Kelavani Mandal Dandi
In the year 1969 Mr. Dhirubhai patel and his co-worker Mr. keshavbhai U. Patel and Mr. Shantubhai Patel came from Gundi ashram, Saurashtra. They were doing a job of teacher there. Dhirubhai was origin of village dandi. Aand he started kelavani mandal with 7-9 other trustees. Vinay Mandir Dandi is running under Kelavani Mandal Dandi. It was only the good affort of shri Dhirubhai to get three hundred thousand Indian rupees from Swiss Aids in 1969. After that Swiss aids donate total of 12 hundred thousand INR. Vinay Mandir has good school building with a technical workshop and a hostel.
4. Shri Radhakrishna Mandir Trust.
Since a long time there was a small temple called 'hanumanjini deri' in dandi. Around 1965 a Radhakrishna mandir was built. But it has not been registered up to 1980. Around 1980 it was registered as 'Shri Radhakrishna Mandir Trust'. During the year 2008-09 the temple's JIRNODHDHAR was done. Now a days it is a beauty of the village. It has a facility of marriage hall also.
Shri Yuvak mandal Dandi :
This mandal was started around 1932. All the cultural, social,religious and other activities of the village is running through this. Up to 1990 it has a own 'Bend'. That "bend" was only play during all the marriage ceremonies in the village.It was cheap and reasonable.Now Yuvak mandal is in abroad also. Shri yuvak Mandal Dandi Canada, England and Newzealand are Mandal of dandikars. They all are independent. In 1973 Shri Ramat Gamat Mandal Dandi started as a co-mandal of this. Shri Dhirubhai patel, late Amrutbhai M. patel, Late Maganbhai Kanjibhai Patel and many others did good enough for it. Maganbhai and his familt were started a cricket rolling trophy in 1973. Still today this tournament is running with different name. Late Mr. Lallubhai P.Patel and his sons sponsor trophy and kits since a few years. Vinu Patel is a legend of Dandi cricket. Girish Patel hit 16 sixer in an inning in Canada is origin of Dandi. Former New Zealander cricketer Deepak Patel's father was born in Dandi. But Deepak never played cricket for Dandi eleven. Girishbhai, Shantubhai and late Chhimabhai participated in cycle race from Porbandar to dandi (1050 k.m.).
HAJIYANI DARAGAH DANDI :
This daragah has its own story. Though only one muslim family is living in Dandi but all the Hindus of Dandi and around areas are trust in this daragah. Each year they have a fastival called "urs" or "oras'. this is the Daudi Vohras one of the most popular daragah in gujarat. It has a campus and just reconstructed now.
PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE : A newly constructed primary health center is a good facility of the village.

WATER WORKS DANDI:
dandi is facing problem of drinking water since hundreds of years. Through Government Of Gujarat Dandi, Samapur and Matwad had a scheme to get drinking water. But it was not good enough. Once people of Dandi tried to get water from Aat but failed. Now a days Dandi has it's own water works. Water is still getting from Matwad. All the efforts to get water form the soil of Dandi were failed. Though now a days this village has enough facility of drinking water.

ECONOMY :
Most of the people have agricultural and dairy product (milk production). They have buffalos or cows and chicken. More than 100 families are migrate in England, New Zealand, USA, Canada etc. countries. A few are in Mumbai, Ahmedabad,Vadodara, surat, Navsari, Jamshedpur,Burnpur, tatanagar etc cities of india.
HISTORY : This village is origine of seven to ten families. All families lives in different falias. Name of falias also comes from the grand grand grand fathers. Like kalafalia ( now swarajfalia) comes from Kalabhai Patel, Chapala falia from Chapalabhai, Vaghafalia from Vaghajibhai, Deva falia from Devjibhai, Panchalifalia from Panchabhai, samala falia (now Talaw falia) from Shamjibhai, Kariya falia (now Azad falia) from Kariabhai, Khalpa falia (now Gandhi and Nava falia)from khalpabhai Patel. A few Deasi families were living in dandi and all of them migrate somewhere. Some people purchased their homes and it is now Desai falia. Many people of Desai falia are origin of Azad and swaraj falia. There were two islands Motidandi and Nanidandi. Desai and Aazad falia are motidandi and remaining are nanidandi.
EDUCATION: Though this village have a primary and a secondary schools most of the students complete secondary. After that very few goes to college and university. most of the boys go for ITI or other technical line, some goes to diploma and degree engineering. Mostly girls used to go to arts or commerce colleges. Some of the girls used to go to Nadiad, Vadodara,Surat or Bardoli high schools and stay in hostels there. But their aim is not to study but to get marriage with NRI. India is facing problem of increasing population while Dandi is decreasing. Reason of decreasing population is many of the families migrate to abroad like England,New Zealand,Canada,USA etc countries and a few to Navsari. Once primary school had more than 200 students with 8 teachers and now only 60 students with 2 teachers. It's very shameful for the villege educational system.
